Acquisitions Requests

The Library welcomes recommendations and requests from faculty for the purchase of books and other library materials. All recommendations and requests are evaluated in accordance with the Library's collection development policy, and approval is contingent upon the availability of funds. To submit a request, please complete the Acquisitions Request Form and e-mail it to the appropriate librarian for your Division:

Division I: Humanities & Social Sciences Timothy Hackett (510) 436-2464
Division II: Business, Math, & Sciences Eva Ng-Chin (510) 436-2462

Course Reserves

The Library maintains a Reserve Collection of textbooks, study guides, workbooks, laboratory and solution manuals, audio-visual media, course packets, and other course-related materials for students to use. Students must have a current student ID card from any of the Peralta Colleges in order to check out reserve materials. Reserve materials can be checked out for two hours for use in the Library only.

If you would like to place an item on reserve in the Library for your students to use, fill out a Reserve Materials Form and submit it along with the item at the Circulation Desk. All reserve materials are withdrawn from the collection at the end of each semester. Should you wish to keep an item on reserve for the following semester, please notify the Library at that time. You may pick up any item(s) on loan to the Library after the last day of the semester. Any item(s) not claimed within four weeks of the end of the semester become(s) the property of the Library to dispose of as it sees fit.

Orientations

At least one week prior to your preferred date, you may request an orientation for your class assignment at the Reference Desk in the library. Or you may contact Timothy Hackett at (510) 436-2464 to request an orientation. When requesting a class orientation, please provide a first and second choice for the preferred date. At the time of your request, you must also submit a copy of your official assignment sheet and/or class syllabus to the librarian taking your request. Orientations are 45 minutes to one hour in length. Instructors must be present with their class during the entire orientation.

Orientations are assignment specific only. The library does not provide "general" orientations. A single orientation does not allow time to introduce students to the library and all its resources. Therefore, orientations are tailored only to meet a specific assignment need.

Orientations demonstrate the research process needed for specific essays, research papers, or special projects. Orientations consists of a lecture and demonstration of various types of resources, such as the online public access catalog, databases, the Internet, and specialized reference materials.
